The story
Traditional retail does not work everywhere.
Shops depend on people coming to them. They can't practically be put everywhere, and they can't stay open all the time.
So on a campus at ten at night, in a hostel block on a Sunday, on a gym floor after the last class, and on an office floor covering a late shift, there is demand with nothing to meet it. Not because nobody noticed — but because a staffed shop in each of those spots would never pay for itself.
NearU started from that gap. Instead of asking people to travel to retail, we put a small, automated, always-open retail point exactly where the demand already sits, and we run it ourselves.
The first machine went live on an engineering campus in Kerala in April 2026 and has been trading every day since. A second followed on the same campus. A warehouse, a route vehicle and a team now sit behind them, and the same loop supports every location we add.
We don't just install vending machines.
We operate and manage convenient retail points where people need them most.
NearU is a service and technology company rather than a vending-machine supplier. The machine is the smallest part of what we do — the work is in choosing the right location, curating the right products, keeping the machine full and reading what the data says to change next.

Founded and run from Kerala
NearU was founded by Thomas K. John, who leads product, operations, partnerships and growth. A small team behind him handles procurement, warehousing, the refill route and new locations — each stage owned end to end by one person.
