Smart vending for modern campuses — installed, stocked and serviced by NearU across academic blocks and hostels in Kerala.
Academic block, Kerala engineering campus
The problem
Students need access to snacks, beverages and essentials well beyond cafeteria operating hours — during late study sessions, early practicals, between back-to-back classes, on weekends and right through vacation periods when the campus shops are shut.
The usual answers don't scale. Extending canteen hours means more staff. Another kiosk means more rent, more space and more management. And neither of them helps a student standing in a hostel corridor at eleven at night.
The NearU solution
NearU installs and operates automated vending machines at strategic locations across campuses and hostels. We own the machine, choose the products, keep it stocked and keep it running.
What you get
One managed service covering the machine, the products and the people who keep both moving.
Products stay reachable at hours no shop or canteen on campus can cover.
Students scan and pay by UPI. Nothing to count, nothing to reconcile, no cash box on the premises.
Familiar, fast-moving brands students actually buy, at prices that make sense on a campus.
Late-night staples and everyday essentials for residential blocks, curated separately from academic blocks.
Stock is planned per machine from our warehouse, not guessed at on the day of the visit.
A planned route keeps machines full through term time — and sensibly stocked through vacations.
A customer care number on every machine and a service response when something needs attention.
Every transaction is logged, so the assortment improves with each refill cycle.
The institution's involvement ends at approving the location. We carry everything after that.
Placement
The best spots are the ones students already walk past — on the way in, on the way out and on the way to the next class.
As a planning guide we look for roughly 1,000 students per machine on academic campuses and about 500 residents per machine in hostels. We confirm the right placement during the site assessment.

Questions
No. NearU owns, installs and operates the machine. The institution provides the location, access and a standard power point — there is no capital cost and no equipment to maintain.
Machines sit on a planned refill route run by our own team from our warehouse in Mulanthuruthy, Ernakulam. How often we visit is set by how quickly that particular location sells — a busy academic block gets more frequent visits than a quiet administrative building.
Machines are 100% cashless: students pay by UPI. There is no cash box anywhere on campus. If a product fails to dispense, the payment platform refunds the amount automatically.
We propose an assortment based on the audience and the location, and we are happy to work within any campus policy on product categories. The mix then adjusts over time based on what actually sells.
Stock depth is planned around the academic calendar. Machines stay operational through low-footfall periods and are loaded back up ahead of term restarting.
As a planning guide, roughly 1,000 students per machine on academic campuses and about 500 residents per machine in hostels. Placement matters as much as headcount, which is why we start with a site assessment rather than a quotation.
Tell us about your campus and we'll come and look at the locations worth serving.
